Using a Barcode Scanner with Multiple Jobs

The introduction of Multiple Jobs in Organizers’ Toolbox 7.0 has resulted in some slight changes to the manner in which a barcode scanner is used to perform data entry.  Because a worker may have more than one active job, any field associated with the job tab may be affected.  This includes (but is not limited to):

(To see all of the fields that are affected just click on the “jobs” tab in a person record)

As a result of this change in the way data is dealt with in Toolbox, when using a barcode scanner to enter data into Toolbox you may need to specify which job associated with a person’s record you’d like to modify.  Let’s take a look at an example.

When you open Sally Aaronson’s record and click on the jobs tab you’ll see that she has two active jobs (and one terminated job).

As a result, when you scan her record with the barcode scanner and her record is brought up, you’ll see both her active jobs displayed.

In order to ensure that the attributes you are entering are applied to the correct job, you must place a check in the box for the job that these attributes will be applied.

For example, if Sally has signed an authorization card for her job at Mercy General but not an authorization card at City of East Ogonquin, you’ll check the Mercy General box.  Then all the data that is entered with the barcode scanner will be applied to the Mercy General job and not the East Ogonquin job.
