The Project Roles Tab is a new feature introduced in Organizer’s Toolbox 7.1. This document gives a basic overview and introduction to the features on this tab and how they relate to the rest of Toolbox. The Project that I will be using as an example is probably more complicated than most users will ever experience so not all of what I go over will necessarily apply to your Projects, but is meant to demonstrate the potential uses for your Union.
When you first view the Project Roles tab in the image above you may be struck by what appears to be a lot of information. This tab is divided into two main rubrics, In-Project Turf & Roles
and Out-of-Project Turf & Roles.
Within each of these you’ll find a further distinction between Turf
that is, an Organizer the person may be assigned to, and Roles
that is, a specific organizing “job” a person may have in the context of a campaign or the Union. When someone has a Role that means Turf can be assigned to them, either manually or by specifying Rules in the Project Roles Manager.
Only In-Project Turf and In-Project Roles can be edited on this tab; Out-of-Project Turf and Out-of-Project Roles can only be edited from within the Project in which the Turf and Roles were created.
In -Project Turf
This image shows the different Organizers that Beverly Abalos is assigned to based on Turf Rules specified in the Project Roles Manager. Notice the differences between Internal Organizer & MPO Turf and the Steward Turf. Beverly’s Steward is Vivian Dicalogero on the basis of a “Manual Selection” (as opposed to “By Rule") which was used to override the Turf Rules specified in the Turf Manager. Rules can be overridden by clicking the drop-box and selecting a person from the list.
Manually-assigned will be preserved even when turf is regenerated in the Project Roles Manager. To revert to Rule-based Turf, just choose the option “Clear Manual Selection,” and the next time you regenerate Turf Beverly Alabos will be reassigned by the rules specified in the Project Roles Manager.
The section to the right of In-Project Turf is In-Project Roles.
Checking one of the boxes in this section means that you are specifying a Role for Beverly which then allows you to assign Turf to her. In this Project Beverly has a Role as a Member Political Organizer and she has 116 people in her Turf.
The bottom section of the Project Roles Tab is informational-only can cannot be edited. Similar to Out-of-Project Jobs, Out-of-Project Turf & Roles displays other Projects a worker belongs to as well as their Role(s) in other Projects and in whose Turf they belong.
