In/Out of Project Jobs

In The Toolbox, a person may have more than one job, and therefore appear in multiple projects. In order to ensure that only the appropriate user names have edit abilities with regards to a person’s job information we have identified in the Person Module “In Project and Out of Project” jobs.  This article will explain that distinction.

Let’s start with the following example.  We have created a project called MGH all in unit. This project is defined by people who have In Unit jobs at the employer Mercy General Hospital.

If we look at the person record Sally Aaronson, you can see that she has jobs listed under both In Project and Out of Project jobs.

Because she has an in unit job at Mercy General Hospital, one job is listed under In-Project Jobs. Additionally, she has two more jobs, but both are at a different employer that is not a part of the project definition.

When you click on the job entitled City of East Ogonquin: Project Coordinator, the Job screen is displayed like this:

While we can see all of the pertinent job information, we are unable to edit any of the information, since the job is Out of Project. In order to edit this job, we would need to switch to a project that contains the employer City of East Ogonquin.  This set up insures that organizers who do not have the ability to make changes in a particular project will only be able to see the data.  We hope that it provides the best of both world for organizers who may want to know details about a person’s employment history without the ability to mess with critical campaign data in other projects.
